I’m going to look at a Citroën BX Sport today, and if it’s any good I’ll try to buy it. Wish me luck!

For those not familiar with the BX Sport: it has a 1.9l 4 cylinder with 2 twin-choke Solex side-draft carbs putting out 126hp (quite decent on a car that weighs less than 1000kg), sportier Hydropneumatic suspension and a (very 80s) wide body to house the wider tyres and trackwidth. Oh and the one I’m looking at has period correct Morette headlights. Also, it was a rather limited production, with only 7500 having been built between 1985 and 1987, I’d estimate less than a quarter of those survived.

Those are quite expensive actually! But if I happen to find one for cheap I wouldn’t say no to it (160hp should be a total joy in that)

I do prefer the looks of the pre-facelift BX though

Great n e w s ! I h ope it is in nice nick and you can buy at a good price!

Those are excellent cars, BX being a l o t more reliable than people think.

Thanks! They seem to be very reliable, but also pretty rust-prone. Although this one has lived inside for the past few years, and recently had welding done, so it might be in o k shape.

I wonder whether the second generation is any better regarding rust protection. They look a little less kooky though.

The second gen is a bit better, but only marginally. The last update is the best, as it has hydro-lines cast in rubber, instead of them laying on bottom without protection.

But the first ones look much more stylish, and more how they were intended to look.

The Sport still has the old interior, with the weird satellite controls, but probably also feels very plasticky

How did it go?

Just found this, absolutely by chance...

The car was decent, but had some issues:

-some spots of poorly repaired rust (tape stuck over rust)

-evidence of a rear accident, and repaired with series 2 parts, so the rear doesn’t look like a true sport anymore

-cracks in the bodykit

-unknown number of kms (gauges were replaced, but no note saying when/at how many km)

-LHM started gushing out when we tried all suspension positions after the test drive.

So seeing that it’s not road worthy anymore now (I’m after a rolling project, this would need work from the get go) , I placed a lowball offer, which got declined. I now know his minimal price, but think it is a bit too high. I’ll give it some thought and might view it once more to better check the floor/sills if I decide to place another offer
